As I am taking a break from writing one of the three essays that are due in thirteen hours, I browsed onto FabSugar and stumbled upon a clip for a show entitled Stylista. If you're like me--looking for an internship/job in the magazine industry--then you would have already heard a little buzz about the happenings of a reality show similar to The Devil Wears Prada. One of the eleven contestants will be rewarded with a coveted paid position in the Editorial department of Elle Magazine, a lease on an apartment in Manhattan, and a clothing allowance at H&M--all for one year.
Honestly, this show makes me angry. Yes, it's an opportunity of a lifetime, and I'm sure it WILL be entertaining. But what makes me angry or annoyed is that there are hundreds upon hundreds of us who are eager to get into the Fashion/Magazine industry and we have to work our butts off doing what we can to be seen as a creditable Fashionista/Journalist, and all these eleven individuals have to do is go on a reality show, perform demanding tasks, and one of them will be handed an impressive position.
Is this fair, or am I just being a big baby?

I guess if the tasks demonstrate that they have the ability to make it in the fashion industry, then it's a fair game....but if not...then it's just a crap reality TV show that will ultimately burden the contestants with a stigma

May 15, 2008 5:55 AMYou're being a baby...Just kidding!
Actually I thought this show would be crap from the moment I heard about it. I'm really getting tired of CW, Bravo, and MTV exploiting my favorite industries. Everything isn't a game, ESPECIALLY FASHION! I doubt the person who wins will last long in the industry, or at least I hope not...

May 15, 2008 10:34 AMi already dislike this show. the devil wears prada was a movie and thats one thing, but when your building a fake reality show based on it is another. most interns don't have to do that many demanding tasks and a lot dont even get job offers. shows like this just make it harder to get into the industry.

May 15, 2008 8:47 PMI'm totally with you. I go back to the Hills though. I really don't have much anything good to say about those kind of shows, but the fact that they're rewarding douches for being rich is pretty infuriating.

May 16, 2008 10:18 AMThis has nothing to do with anything, except for the fact that we need to take a Shia pilgrimage to Philly...oh, and maybe figure out how to convince people we're of asian heritage...haha!

May 16, 2008 8:40 PMThey get to humiliate themselves on TV then briefly have a job they'll most likely fail at. What's to envy?
